This morning I welcomed Nick Clegg to Manchester Withington where we visited Mauldeth Road Primary School in Ladybarn ahead of the eagerly anticipated leaders debate in Manchester tonight. I was glad Nick took time out of his preparation schedule for this evening's debate to come and meet some supporters and see the outstanding work being done at this school. We were shown around the school by the Head teacher and the BBC political editor Nick Robinson came down to speak to myself and Nick.
The turnout from our supporters was brilliant and many of them were delighted to have had the opportunity to wish Nick the very best for the debate tonight. The visit was extra special for two of our Withington Ward councillors Brendon Jones and Simon Wheale who are school governors at Mauldeth Road Primary School, I'm sure they were both honoured to show Nick this outstanding school.
There is a great deal of excitement ahead of tonight’s debate and I know Nick will come out of it very well. Many voters I have met on the streets have been telling me they are fed up of being told that Lib Dems can’t win round here, when it is quite clear we are winning here right now!
Nick used this visit to demonstrate how serious our campaign is. People want real change and the Liberal Democrats can deliver it; they won’t be taken in by Labour’s scaremongering about voting Lib Dem and getting a Tory government- we all know local Lib Dems have a record of standing up for the area- and one seat won't decide a government.
