Labour slammed by trustee for lack of support on West Didsbury School

At a public Hustings meeting last night, Labour candidate Jeff Smith was publicly contradicted by a trustee of the West Didsbury C of E Primary School about support for the new school.

John Leech had written in support of the application, and lobbied ministers. According to the trustee, Labour only supported the scheme after it had been agreed by the Government.

John Leech said today, "Last night, a trustee of the school nailed the Labour lie that they supported this bid. They didn't support it until it had already been agreed and even then, only one Labour Councillor wrote in support."

Yesterday, Labour Councillor Andrew Simcock falsely claimed that John had lied about his support for the school in a tweet during the Withington Hustings event.

The Withington Hustings account tweeted, 'Ben is a trustee of the new school: "John offered us his full support and was supportive throughout the process"'

John added, "I am proud that both I and the then local Liberal Democrat Councillors supported it from day one."
